Mustache and Bow Holder

Today I'm sharing something I've made that had no inspiration from Pinterest. I hope you guys don't mind. :)

I LOVE wearing flowers in my hair. As my collection has grown I needed a place to store them, so I made a simple little holder one day with a wooden letter and a ribbon. After a few months of looking at it hanging up in the bathroom my boyfriend came to me with an idea. "Wouldn't it be funny if guys could have something like that but with fake mustaches instead of bows/flowers?" Of course it was too great of an idea to pass up, so we found a J (for Jamal) and made it happen.

I think it turned out so cute! The 'J' isn't as decorated as my 'V' but we couldn't decide on a color so we just left it with the finish it came with. The hardest part of this project was finding the mustaches to put on it. Luckily a friend of ours mentioned a local restaurant having a gumball machine full of them, so we made a stop one afternoon and loaded up.

My only complaint with this is that the mustaches curl up, so they're not as cute as they could be, but that could be fixed if I got some thicker ribbon to affix them to.

Speaking of ribbon, did you notice the detail on the ribbon used for this holder? Mustaches! A friend sent a piece of this in a package, and I had been saving it for the perfect project. I love it!

Miracle Pan Release

My favorite Pinterest project so far is actually one of the most simple I've done.
I pinned this a while back, and when baking some banana bread recently, I thought of it and decided to try it out.

Source: Apron of Grace via Victoria on Pinterest
Ingredients
1/2 cup Lard or Shortening
1/2 cup Vegetable Oil
1/2 cup unbleached or all-purpose Flour
Directions
Whip, whip, whip and store in airtight container at room temperature.
Yields 1-1/2 cups
Brush on your pans with a pastry brush!

Only 3 ingredients and it took less than 2 minutes to put it together in a mason jar.
Not the most appetizing, but it gets the job done.

The best part is, it works great! I've used it for everything I've baked since then, and had great success. I used it when baking brownies a couple of weeks ago, and despite brownies being something I ALWAYS have a problem with sticking they pulled out of the pan effortlessly. I meant to get a picture just to show how clean the pan was after the brownies were removed, but I haven't gotten in the blogging state of mind yet and forgot to snap one before washing the pan. I promise I'll update this next time I bake something.

Let me know what you think if you try this out! :)

Pinterest Adventures

I, like many others lately, have developed an addiction to Pinterest.

If you're here, I'm sure you know what Pinterest is, but just in case you don't here's wikipedia's description of it : "Pinterest is a vision board-styled social photo sharing website and app where users can create and manage theme-based image collections."
Basically, you browse through endless amounts of photos that range from craft tutorials to expensive sports cars and everything in between. Each of these photos link back to a separate website that someone has "pinned" it from. You can then re-pin the things you like and organize them onto your own virtual pinboards. Go check it out (pinterest.com), but be warned, you will lose HOURS of your life. It's so worth it though!

I'm starting this blog to document my experience with the wonderful world of Pinterest. Since joining the site I've tried numerous crafts and recipes. Some have failed, but most have turned out great. I hope you'll follow along as I share my Pinterest Adventures.
